Internationally renowned, II BY IV DESIGN was founded in 1990 by partners Dan Menchions and Keith Rushbrook. Both Dan and Keith dreamed of a creative firm that was deeply rooted in design and guided by a passion for constant innovation.  Credited with countless awards and esteemed publications, II BY IV DESIGN delivers the highest level of design excellence to its impressive list of global clients.

Founder Dan Menchions was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to share some insight and inspiration behind the design of ONE Mission Bay.

In what ways has travel influenced your design aesthetic?

Travel has always been and continues to be a source of inspiration in our design work; we, my business partner Keith Rushbrook and I, have found that great design transcends borders or cultures and is in fact timeless. It could be a unique pattern, a thoughtfully executed millwork detail or ingenious new material that we discovered on our travels that prompts taking a creative concept in a fresh direction. I think too that this is something that todays demographic expects ~ the ease of access and explosion of information available on the internet is creating a global awareness of style and design.

What trend, innovation, or new ideas are you excited to integrate into One Mission Bay?

We, II BY IV DESIGN, don’t design to a trend or follow trends; each project we work on has its own personality and character and we strive to create designs that will be as relevant tomorrow as they are today. One Mission Bay has modern approach though is entirely classic in its appeal.

One of the most exciting aspects of the project is the integration of public art throughout, we are working with local artists and artisans to create installations that reflect the community’s spirit and locale. The expansive amenities at One Mission Bay really are an extension of each purchasers home and have an approachable, inviting feel…it’s about a lifestyle.

What’s your most treasured item or feature in your own home?

Truthfully, when I come home the one thing I treasure most, well two actually, are my Scottish Fold cats – Milo and Brook.

Favorite color combination for 2016?

I appreciate a neutral color palette that is more about visual texture, weaves and natural woods; it allows you to distinguish a space with art and found objects showcasing your personality and experiences.
